‘Tout va sous terre et
rentre dans le jeu.’
(Valery,
‘Le Cimetiere Marin’.)
On the headland
A wintry stone
Stares out to see
The tidal zone
Ebbing and flowing
Blood moons.
Acrobat
Breathes fluid
Fishy gills.
Small feet advance
Tremulously
Wavelets hiss.
In rock pools
Claws clutch
Glassy world.
Dawn whitens
Bodies hang
On a wave.
Entwined!
Surf sighs
Moonlit dunes.
Love swells
Bare flesh
Salt mouths meet.
Pebble houses
Tame the beach
Seagull wings.
Sea invades
Forgotten castles
Summer ends.
The autumn wind
Runs on wet sand
With a pup.
Among rocks
Old feet stumble
At sunset.
On the headland
A wintry stone
Stares out to sea.
Stares out to see
Unendingly
The tidal zone.
Ebbing and flowing…
